Getting to the Start
Throughout our journey, we stuck to the same model. Drive to the end of the walk and get transport back to the start. It, of course, meant that we could cover the distance 3 times, but it did mean that the car was waiting at the end, so we weren’t constrained by bus timetables and didn’t have to wait for a bus or a taxi back. As far as taxi drivers were concerned, we were also at our cleanest in the morning before whatever the trail and weather would throw at us!
One thing to bear in mind is that taxi fares can be quite steep in remote areas. Unlike in towns and cities, where your taxi will likely pick up another customer on the return journey, in more remote areas, you will be paying for the whole journey from their base and back again. Over 2024, I ended up with some eye-watering taxi fares, but having decided to do the trip, you have to go with the flow. And I got some good deals on the accommodation to compensate.
