Bude to Crackington Haven is a rugged stretch of coastline featuring high cliffs, hidden coves, zigzagging paths, and striking geology. With several steep climbs and descents, it’s a demanding but visually rich stage.






































































































Points of Interest: Bude to Crackington Haven
Here’s what to look out for along the way:
Bude Castle & Canal
The walk begins at Bude Castle, then follows the canal and crosses the lock gates before heading out toward the sea.
Efford Down & The Storm Tower
Clifftop walking with views of the sea and Bude’s Pepperpot—a coastal lookout tower above the distinctive Whale’s Back Rock.
Widemouth Bay
A sweeping sandy beach framed by rocky headlands. Dogs are welcome year-round on the southern stretch near Black Rock.
Wanson Water Valley
A gentle dip and climb inland through this stream valley before a steep road ascent toward Penhalt Cliff.
Millook Haven
A small, rocky beach famous for its Chevron-folded cliffs—one of the UK’s most impressive geological sights.
Millook Common & Dizzard
A long, steady climb to the wooded slopes of Dizzard, where the path follows the edge of ancient oak forest.
Cleave Strand
Another steep descent and climb, with zigzag paths down to a stream—ideal for cooling off.
Little Barton Strand
A short final dip before the path winds above Pencarrow Point and begins the descent into the village.
Crackington Haven
A small coastal settlement with a beach, car park, and the welcome sight of the Coombe Barton Inn for a well-earned drink.

There are two bus routes through Crackington Haven: the 95 bus, which travels between Bude and Newquay; and the 181 line, which travels between Bodmin and Crackington Haven.
