The Hunters Inn
The Hunters Inn is a historic country inn in Heddon’s Valley beside the River Heddon, a short distance from the South West Coast Path. The site began as an 18th‑century thatched cottage and by 1823 was recorded as an inn supplying ale to local shooting parties; lodging rooms were added as tourism grew in the mid‑19th century. A major fire in 1895 destroyed much of the building, and it was rebuilt between 1895 and 1906, combining Swiss‑chalet form and roofscape with Arts-and-Crafts/late‑Victorian half‑timbered Gothic decorative features. The property was acquired by the National Trust in 2018 and lies within a heavily conserved valley important for local wildlife conservation.
